GOATWHORE released their critically adored Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven full-length last October via Metal Blade Records. Their most accomplished album to date in sound, concept, and execution, the twelve-track offering earned the #9 position on Billboard’s Current Hard Music Albums chart upon its first week of release and stands among the most ravaging records to come out of 2022.

Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven was produced by Jarrett Pritchard (Exhumed, 1349), and tracked primarily at Studio In The Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana under pandemic restrictions. The band recruited acclaimed producer Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire, Gatecreeper, Code Orange) to mix the record with final mastering duties handled by Grammy-award winning engineer Ted Jensen (Ghost, Gojira, Cult Of Luna). The record is tied together by the art of longtime collaborator Jordan Barlow.

Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven is available on CD, digitally, and LP on multiple color variants. Preview and purchase yours today at: metalblade.com/goatwhore

Angels… consistently rages without ever devolving into the samey sounding banality that plagues so many less adept practitioners. Angels… just gets better the longer it plays.” – Decibel Magazine

If you love war metal, this pick will be right up your alley. It assaults you with blitzkrieg strength. This evil offering is pleasantly raw. Yet, it is also a polished and mature work. GOATWHORE will catch you off guard with soaring guitar solos and the like.” – MetalSucks

Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven cherry-picks the best bits from various subgenres – the guttural intensity of death metal, the trilling majesty of black metal – and assembles them into songs that feel almost regal in their hateful conviction.” – Spin Magazine’s 10 Best Metal Albums Of 2022

…blistering tracks toward the album’s back-end like ‘Voracious Blood Fixation’ and ‘The Devil’s Warlords’…showcase some of GOATWHORE’s best, off-kilter, savage riffs ever. It truly is all killer with no filler… Whatever the future may hold for GOATWHORE, Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven proves that the band is at the top of its game, and that it has much more to offer.” – Blabbermouth

The blackened thrash remains up front, as Falgoust’s growls and Duet’s riffs and sinister solos coalesce with the determined rhythms of Simmons and Coleman. GOATWHORE ascends to eviscerate all expectations. Angels Hung from the Arches of Heaven exceeds the related genre’s boundaries and redefine their sound and place in the landscape of metal.” – New Noise Magazine

…another devilishly brutal offering from GOATWHORE and sees the band on relentlessly savage and reenergized form with their brand of no nonsense metal going for the jugular at every chance it gets.” – Distorted Sound

Sammy Duet – guitars, vocals
Zack Simmons – drums

CATEGORY 7, the new heavy metal outfit boasting the all-star lineup of John Bush (Armored Saint, Anthrax), Mike Orlando (Adrenaline Mob, Sonic Universe, Noturnall), Phil Demmel (Machine Head, Kerry King, Vio-Lence), Jack Gibson (Exodus), and Jason Bittner (Shadows Fall, Overkill), will release their self-titled debut full-length on July 26th through Metal Blade Records.

With veteran musicians from so many legendary bands, it’s hard not to think of CATEGORY 7 as a supergroup. “I think we’re pretty super,” jokes guitarist Phil Demmel, who has earned mega-metal cred over the decades as a member of Machine Head, Vio-Lence, Kerry King, and has also played as a fill-in road guitarist for Slayer, Lamb of God, Overkill, and others. “Really, I feel like this is a band, not a side project. And I feel like we have written this incredible piece of music, and we’re not done. I’m so proud of the way this came together and the people who were involved. And I think we all feel super positive about this and what else we can do with it going forward.

CATEGORY 7 has created an album that is fresh and familiar. The mixture of NWOBHM, thrash, punk-metal, and traditional metal is cohesive and sonically rewarding, establishing an eclectic musical backdrop for vocalist John Bush’s instantly identifiable vocals. At the same time, the diversity of styles creates its own template that’s ideal for headbanging, moshing, and voluble sing-alongs.

It’s all about big verses and big songs, and it has a lot of the elements we’ve explored in our other bands,” explains guitarist and main songwriter Mike Orlando.

Take lead single, the upbeat album opener, “In Stitches,” which commences with piledriving double-bass drums, a feral thrash passage, and a fiery lead before toning down just enough for the distinctive vocals to stand out.

It gets heavy, it’s thrashy at times, but it opens up in the verses, and then the double-bass drums come in and knock you off your chair, but in a great way,” Orlando says.

Bush further elaborates, “I read an article on an unhoused pregnant woman named Stitches who resided in Los Angeles obviously living a very difficult life that was compounded by mental illness and drug abuse. The encampment situation in my beloved city drives me bats. I balance between serious empathy and complete anger. The combination of imagining her life as well as my own internal turmoil led me to an almost humorous insanity state while writing this scathing album opener.”

Watch CATEGORY 7‘s video for “In Stitches” at THIS LOCATION.

Category 7 was produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered by Orlando at Sonic Stomp Studios with art and layout by Carlos Fides at Artside Studio (Angra, Evergrey, Kamelot). The record will be available on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

Storm Surge (US + EU)

German metalcore veterans NEAERA, who are celebrating their twentieth anniversary this year, will release their All Is Dust full-length on June 28th via Metal Blade Records, today unveiling the record’s first single and pre-orders.

On February 28th, 2020, NEAERA released their seventh album – it was their eponymous comeback record after a seven-year-hiatus – which caught everyone by surprise. Despite having been well received, the pandemic impeded the band’s long awaited and already scheduled return to live stages. On February 29th, 2020, NEAERA played a sold-out release show, but it remained the only show for the record in years since Wacken, the Impericon festivals, and other shows were forced to be postponed until further notice.

By 2021, the NEAERA collective decided it was time for new material. With a desire to return to an oldschool writing approach when songs were composed together in a musty rehearsal room, the band started the writing process. By 2022, the band recruited Janosch Rathmer (drummer of long-time friends/German post-rock institution Long Distance Calling) to record their new album, All Is Dust. Mixing and mastering for the record was skillfully executed by Kristian Kohle at Kohlekeller Studios who adorned the songs with a powerful yet organic sound that perfectly fit the band’s vision of their new material and approach.

Lyrically, NEAERA shifted their focus a bit and put the individual, its survival, and sanity in these testing times center stage alongside lyrics that tackle global and social clamor – a shift that was arguably pandemic-related.

Comments guitarist Stefan Keller on first single, “Pacifier,” “‘Pacifier’ is a rather typical NEAERA song containing the trademarks the band is renowned for. The lyrics deal with a way to come to peace with oneself, leaving behind regrets, old pain and banishing thoughts that impede you.

All Is Dust features cover art by Giannis Nakos of Remedy Art Design (Oceans Of Slumber, Evergrey, Vomitory) and will be released on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

Dark Vanilla Marbled (Ltd. 700)
Orange Black Dust (Ltd. 200)
Gold Black Dust (EMP exclusive – Ltd. 300)

Additionally, a limited album/ticket bundle will be available at Kingsroad and Impericon for an exclusive NEAERA record release show in Münster, Germany on September 14th. Direct support for that show comes from Breakdown Of Sanity.

Chaos And Carnage Tour Begins This Week

Reading, Pennsylvania-based progressive death metallers RIVERS OF NIHIL are pleased to unleash their brand new single, “Criminals.” The latest track serves as a teaser for the band’s upcoming new full-length.

Comments vocalist/bassist Adam Biggs, “Our newest single ‘Criminals,’ is by far one of the most aggressive tracks we’ve released in quite some time and displays the power of the new lineup at a full 10 out of 10. Lyrically, the song is a meditation on the nature of crime, punishment, and the delicate balance of power therein. So, show up for the shredding, stay for the contemplation of truth and justice. Enjoy!

** RIVERS OF NIHIL headlining date

RIVERS OF NIHIL have never fit neatly into a box, but with 2018′s Where Owls Know My Name, they transcended all labels applied to them. Returning in 2021 with The Work, they forged further into new territory, once again upending any expectations fans had placed on them. And now, with a new series of singles recorded in 2023 and released as singles since then – eventually appearing together on a new album – the band has once again shattered the ceiling of how far they are willing to go in search of new sonic terrain.

The band spent 2021 and 2022 burning the candle at both ends with a frenzied tour schedule including headlining runs of the US and Europe, a jaunt on the European festival circuit, and two runs in support of The Black Dahlia Murder and The Contortionist in North America. But once the latter tour wrapped up, they were short a band member.

For personal reasons, founding member and lead vocalist Jake Dieffenbach and the band went their separate ways. The split took place just three days after the recording of a live video and audio session for Audiotree‘s new From Nothing series, which was released on April 20th, 2023. And while initially the band wasn’t sure how to approach the release with the departure of a founding member and lead singer – or whether to release it at all – they decided to move forward with it to honor Dieffenbach’s contributions to the group over the years and mark the beginning of a new chapter.

In March 2023, RIVERS OF NIHIL wrapped up a recording session that saw the now four-piece band birth a considerable amount of new music featuring their previous bassist/backup vocalist Adam Biggs as the new lead vocalist/bassist. This recording session also marked the first appearance of new guitarist Andy Thomas (ex-Black Crown Initiate), whose vocals also play prominently in the music, as a member of RIVERS OF NIHIL. These new singles are the first to showcase the band’s new lineup in full-on collaboration, and demonstrate that while this is a new, brave sound with tons of potential, it also carries the band’s classic energy.

The band recently began sessions at Atrium Audio with Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland to finish recording what will end up being their fifth full-length album. Look out for that in 2025.

RIVERS OF NIHIL:
Adam Biggs – vocals, bass
Brody Uttley – guitar, keyboards
Andrew Thomas – rhythm guitar, vocals
Jared Klein – drums, vocals

DISILLUSION was founded in 1994 and with each subsequent independent release, the band progressed in many ways and morphed into something much more. By the time their debut album “Back To Times Of Splendor” was released through Metal Blade Records in 2004, DISILLUSION were not only touring throughout Germany but also internationally with the likes of Amon Amarth and Impious.

Singer, main composer and founding member Andy Schmidt comments: “20 years, crazy, I’m so grateful for the huge impact this record had on so many people, fans, musicians, music lovers. And of course we never expected this. Thank You to everybody who supported us through all the years! Time to celebrate together on tour in spring.”

DISILLUSION‘s long rich history has had many highlights, most recently being their last two albums “The Liberation” and “Ayam” charting in Germany, but “Back To Times Of Splendor” was an album that defined them as a band. It was a concept album of pure progressive death metal but still showed a huge range of emotion. From touching, almost fragile moments to brutal rhythmic outbursts – DISILLUSION melted all genre boundaries together and made an epic masterpiece which Metal Hammer Magazine heralded it as one of the best German metal albums of all time.

DISILLUSION will celebrate this milestone in 2024 by touring internationally, where they will perform “Back To Times Of Splendor” in its entirety. The first shows in Germany, Switzerland and Austria are on sale now with many more concerts and festivals to be announced soon.

Metal Blade Records is pleased to welcome Atlanta, Georgia-based black metal outfit CLOAK to its legendary roster!

CLOAK embraces the rebellious and time-tested traditions of heavy metal. Whether it be conjuring the chaotic spirit of Swedish black metal purveyors Watain and Dissection, summoning the deep, dark, and sensual groove of Danzig, or evoking the raw speed and raucous energy of Motörhead, the influence of metal’s founding fathers is deep within CLOAK‘s DNA. CLOAK‘s charm, however, does not merely lie within its romanticism of the past, but rather is the way each of these genres has shaped the band’s own personal identity. Of the band’s most recent full-length, the critically lauded Black Flame Eternal, Decibel Magazine wrote, “CLOAK summons the black flames and feeds the fire with hard rock riffs and emits plumes of gothic atmosphere. It’s a big, professional, almost cinematic sound that should carry them to bigger venues and opportunities soon.”

Notes CLOAK of their union with Metal Blade Records, “After meeting the Metal Blade crew on our recent US tour, we knew it was the right move creatively as the respect would go both ways. We’re in the very early stages of working on new material in between touring, and who knows where the dark and winding path will lead us this time. All we know is that we have some real hard work ahead of us, as releasing new music on the same label that put out titans like Hell Awaits is not something we take lightly.”

Comments Metal Blade’s Ryan Williams; US A&R, “The decision to sign CLOAK was easy as I think they embody the quintessential essence of what it means to be a heavy metal band on Metal Blade. We are looking forward to many years of their bewitching conjurings!

CLOAK will appear on this year’s edition of the Milwaukee Metal Fest next month and recently announced The Holy Dark Over Europe Summer tour. The band comments, “Europe! We’ve waited years to finally get over there and tour, and it’s finally happening. This will be a mixture of festivals and club shows along with Hellripper and High Command. Supporters of the Black Flame come forth as we praise the Holy Darkness.”

Cleveland death metal legends-in-waiting 200 STAB WOUNDS have returned with Manual Manic Procedures, set for release on June 28th through Metal Blade Records.

A superlative sophomore effort that follows their tour de force debut, 2021′s Slave To The Scalpel, the new album Manual Manic Procedures is a brutal slab of old-school death metal with a contemporary edge. Not for the faint-hearted, the record may well be the album that puts classic gore-themed ferocity back into the metal community’s collective consciousness.

Slave To The Scalpel saw 200 STAB WOUNDS insinuate themselves into the minds of extreme metal fans, leading to praise from Pitchfork for their “unpretentious brilliance, pitch-black sense of humor” and an “aesthetic [that’s] built around a chugging, groovy riff that stomps down a path of destruction.” Manual Manic Procedures sees the band upping the ante both musically and lyrically.

The album’s artwork — graphically depicting radical surgery on somebody who may or may not be conscious — is an immediate indicator of what this record is all about. No punches pulled, no holds barred, just blood-soaked death metal.

The themes on Manual Manic Procedures run the gamut of classic gore-metal horror subject matter, beloved to the band and their rapidly growing audience. “I’ll feel what kind of vibe the song has, and what topic would fit for that particular song,” vocalist/guitarist Steve Buhl explains. “The last song on the new record, ‘Parricide,’ is about someone going into a nursing home, and just blowing it up. The lyrics are about those type of corporations that don’t really give a fuck about those people. It’s all just a money grab.”

The lead single is Manual Manic Procedures‘ opening track, “Hands Of Eternity.” Buhl explains that the song is about being trapped in your own mind, something most of us can relate to. “That song is a good example of where we want to go musically. The heavy riffs are there, but there’s still a lot of good melody. It’s not just crazy fucking blast beats and, ‘riff riff riff.’ It’s more structured, groovy, and melodic, but still heavy. That’s one of my favorites.”

“Abhorrence” Full-Length To See Release Next Month

Watch / stream COGNITIVE’s “A Pact Unholy” HERE.

A Pact Unholy” is the scathing new single from technical death metal architects, COGNITIVE. The track appears on the band’s Abhorrence full-length, set for release on May 17th on Metal Blade Records.

Once accurately championed by Kerrang Magazine for composing songs that land with “cartilage-crushing force,” Abhorrence carries on tradition with its a maniacal fusion of relentless riffs and thoughtful, devastating lyrics. A raging, draining, and ultimately fulfilling experience, Abhorrence finds the New Jersey powerhouse quintet at their brutal best.

Elaborates guitarist Rob Wharton on their latest single, “‘A Pact Unholy’ kicks off with blistering speeds, guitars are nonstop, and the drums add to the ferocity, all leading into a dissonant, blackened midsection, and a heavy riff exit, with fantasy lyrics speaking about bloodmagic, summoning, and resurrection.”

Watch COGNITIVE‘s video for “A Pact Unholy” at THIS LOCATION.

Watch the band’s previously released video for “AbhorrenceHERE.

COGNITIVE started work on Abhorrence while touring in support of Malevolent Thoughts Of A Hastened Extinction, sending tracks back and forth while trekking from one intense gig to the next. Drummer AJ Viana has his own studio (he’s previously worked with bands as prestigious as Hath) and recorded, tracked, and mixed the album, before Ryan Williams (The Black Dahlia Murder, John Frum) at Metal Blade Records mastered it. To the album’s immense benefit, it was a collaborative process, and everyone brought their proverbial A game.

Abhorrence is an exercise in aural turbulence, each track taking its listener on a magnificently traumatic journey. “Our lyrics for this record are all over the place,” says Wharton. “There’s some stuff about video games and addiction and mental health. To me, that’s the kind of subject matter that hits home because everyone’s got stuff going on in their lives. It’s relatable.

COGNITIVE‘s Abhorrence will be released on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

Crimson Void (US retail)
Gilded Abyss (EU + US Metal Blade Webstore – Ltd. 400)
