Lost Property Office release The Land of Last Things, a four-track spoken-word concept EP built around memory, collapse, and what remains.

Written by South African poet Kobus Kotze following his recent release Habitus (Naledi Publishers) the record sits between post-punk atmosphere, experimental electronics, and stripped-back spoken word. The structure is cyclical rather than linear. It begins with The Land of Lost Things, moves through Threshold and Disassembly, and ends with The Land of Found Things focusing on shifts rather than resolution. Vocals are carried by Marike Kotze and Kobus Kotze, with additional vocal contributions from Dawn Lintern of Das Fluff. Lintern who also handles the music, production, and mix builds the sound from industrial textures, electronic minimalism, and controlled tension. The EP is mastered by Matthew Fink.

The cover artwork, Cause of Death: Abandonment by Steven Bosch, is adapted into the final release image by Christian Ruland. Themes of addiction, memory, ecological anxiety, and emotional fallout run throughout without being overstated.

It’s a record that opens up more on repeat listens.

Pleasant Valley is a heavy psychedelic trio from rural Alabama, rooted in fuzz, repetition, and the kind of volume that turns a room into a headspace. What started as a loose blend of proto-punk energy, doom weight, and freeform psych has grown into something more focused and more expansive—louder, stranger, and built for the stage.

Over the past stretch of shows, the addition of bassist Shane has pushed the band into a deeper, more physical sound. The low end hits harder, the jams stretch further, and the songs breathe in a way that only comes from time spent playing them in front of people. There’s less separation now between structure and improvisation—everything bleeds together into long, hypnotic movements.

The recordings reflect that evolution. Across multiple releases, Pleasant Valley leans into contrast: blown-out riffs and minimal passages, locked-in grooves that dissolve into noise, moments that feel deliberate alongside ones that feel barely contained. The thread through all of it is a commitment to feel over polish—capturing something immediate, raw, and a little unpredictable.

The current collection pulls together some of the band’s heaviest material to date, alongside earlier work and a glimpse into where things are heading next. It’s not a reset or a departure—more like a widening of the same road. The newer material digs further into repetition, weight, and atmosphere, pushing toward something darker, more immersive, and more psychedelic

Echoes Forest (2026), Mantra Machines third record, marks a more earthbound exploration. Venturing into the depths of ancient forests, this is a psychedelic journey that moves its listeners into more cinematic, inward-looking territory.

Mantra Machine brings heavy, hypnotic grooves and immersive soundscapes with a fresh, modern twist on psychedelic rock. This Dutch three-piece band crafts instrumental jams that blend driving guitars, fuzz-drenched bass, and dynamic drums with layered synth atmospheres.
Launching with a powerful debut at England’s Sonic Rock Solstice festival back in 2012, Mantra Machine soon dropped Stage One, their first EP. Their full-length album Nitrogen followed in 2014, marking the start of their journey through expansive, atmospheric compositions. A growing reputation led to an invitation to the legendary Roadburn Festival in 2016, followed by performances at Belgium’s Yellowstock and a mini-tour in Germany and Austria.

In 2019, the band released Heliosphere, further exploring new sounds and ambitious arrangements in an acclaimed instrumental journey.

With a new lineup in 2023, Mantra Machine continues to evolve and explore. Now with their new album Echoes Forests, promising to take listeners even deeper into their sonic universe.
