Sweaty Betty were a hard grafting, hard rocking, heavy band from the Black Country area of the West Midlands of England.

Unfortunately, like so many under-rated bands of the era, success eluded them and they never had a commercial release during their active years (1972-1975).

Centred around vocalist extraordinaire ‘Rik Staines’(later of NWOBHM legends Dark Star),
Sweaty Betty also featured Budgie drummer Pete Boot who appears here on two tracks.
The Sweatier The Bettyer is the first ever official release by Sweaty Betty and will be available on all platforms via Rise Above Records on September 4th. It is a verified treat for fans of underground 1970s.

“Death Mask Messiah” To See Release August 28th On Metal Blade Records

Allocated Savagery” is the latest single from veteran German thrash legion, EXUMER. The track comes by way of the band’s latest studio album, Death Mask Messiah, set for release on August 28th through Metal Blade Records.

Death Mask Messiah is inspired conceptually by US politics of the last decade, the pandemic, the use of misinformation to stir up cultural divides, etc. Vocalist Mem V. Stein also explores the 30-year anniversary of Waco, Texas and the standoff with the Branch Davidians.

‘Allocated Savagery’ delivers a brutal musical and lyrical account of the event,” comments Mem. “The track captures the intensity of the confrontation with the ATF, while reflecting on themes of misinformation and division that still resonate today.”

Stream EXUMER‘s “Allocated SavageryHERE.

Watch EXUMER‘s previously released video for “Death Mask MessiahHERE.

Death Mask Messiah serves as EXUMER‘s first new studio output in seven years and further cements the band’s legacy as a dauntless thrash metal institution. A logical and compelling progression from their three previous albums, the 11 ferocious songs, produced by Dominic Paraskevopoulos (Kreator, Caliban) and mixed and mastered by Arthur Rizk (Soulfly, King Diamond), take a more brutal and direct musical approach.

Recorded from December 2025 through January 2026, Death Mask Messiah is also the first EXUMER LP recorded with the rhythm section of drummer Jerome Reil and bass player Alex Voss. “You can feel their young energy, coupled with our trademark aggression and experience,” says Mem. “The band sounds more focused and yet raw, thanks to their addition to the lineup.”

The sequencing of Death Mask Messiah mirrors the intended lyrical and conceptual narrative to the music guitarists Ray Mensh and Marc B. composed for the album. The result is an auditory and emotional rollercoaster ride worth repeating. “I think we are heading toward a thrash renaissance, with legacy bands like us, Exodus and Kreator dropping new albums, and younger bands becoming very popular with younger fans,” Mem observes. While it’s been a few years since EXUMER‘s last album, Death Mask Messiah is doubtless worth the wait, the band believes that, “it’s always quality over quantity for EXUMER, and we hope and believe people appreciate that approach.”

As a bonus, Death Mask Messiah includes a guest and a cover song: Nasty Ronnie Galletti from American metal legends Nasty Savage sings on EXUMER‘s version of his band’s track “Unchained Angel.” EXUMER supported the band in 1988 on their first European tour.

Death Mask Messiah features front art and layout by Björn Gooßes of Killustrations (Sodom, Vomitory) and will be released on CD-Digipak and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

EXUMER is a legendary powerhouse with history to crush any stage they play. There is great history from 1988 with Nasty Savage touring Europe and I am honored to be a part of this project!” — Nasty Ronnie, Nasty Savage

This is like jumping into a time machine set for 1986! Good old hard-nosed yet catchy German thrash metal the way it was always meant to be. Thank you to EXUMER for making me feel like I am 21 again!” — Danny Lilker, Anthrax, Brutal Truth, Nuclear Assault, SOD, etc.

With Death Mask Messiah, EXUMER have elevated their craft. Tight and incisive riffing, pummeling drums, and Mem’s vocal attack at full force – the band is in top form. An extremely satisfying listen.” — Jeff Matz, High On Fire

Classic German thrash with all the spirit and energy of their early days, but more focused and precise. EXUMER are one of the very few ‘legacy’ bands where modern production clearly enhances the musical aggression, without detracting from any of the original metal message. Well done, boys!” — Brian “Mitts” Daniels, ex-Madball

Wayfarer Release New Song feat. David Eugene Edwards and Tease New Studio Album

– August 6th, 2026 –

‘Perdition’s Crossing’ feat. Dave Eugene Edwards available on limited 12″ vinyl – LISTEN HERE

New Album Riders of the Setting Sun planned for autumn 2026 release

Colorado’s Wayfarer are back. “Perdition’s Crossing“, the band’s first new music since their widely acclaimed 2023 album American Gothic, is out NOW – and it signals a bold new chapter. Featuring the singular voice of David Eugene Edwards (16 Horsepower, Wovenhand), the track marks the beginning of a journey into territory the band hasn’t explored before: dark, cinematic Americana, more desolate than anything in their catalog, but no less haunting for it.

The track was recorded in Colorado, and was produced by Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe), engineered by James Barone (Beach House), mixed by Iver Sandoy (Enslaved) and mastered by Alan Douches (Converge etc).

Accompanying the single is a music video directed by Brendan McGowan, known for his visually striking work with Tribulation, Imperial Triumphant, and many others.

Watch it HERE

Perdition’s Crossing” is a track from Wayfarer‘s forthcoming studio album Riders of the Setting Sun, an eight-track record due for release in late 2026 that sees the band push further into new sonic and emotional terrain. More details to follow.

To mark the occasion, Vesperian is releasing a strictly limited 12″ maxi-single of “Perdition’s Crossing” – 300 copies worldwide, pressed on black vinyl with a foldout sleeve featuring lyrics, band comments, and notes on each track. Artwork by graphic novelist Julian Brier. Side A carries the title track; Side B features two exclusives: a remix by Ben Chisholm of Chelsea Wolfe (who also produced the forthcoming album) and a field recording. 200 copies are available in the US, with 100 reserved for Europe exclusively through the Vesperian webstore, up for pre-order on July 23 and to be released in mid-August.

Wayfarer will perform at Fire in the Mountains this year, where the 12″ maxi-single – along with other Vesperian releases – will be available at the label’s festival stand. For all further details on availability at the festival and beyond, follow Vesperian on Instagram.

The band comments:
We have long walked a path that was very much informed by Denver Sound legends like 16 Horsepower, and Wovenhand, among many others. To work alongside someone like David Eugene Edwards is not only a bit of a dream come true for us, but also a perfect way for us to start down new roads of the Wayfarer sound that are being fleshed out. We are excited for this collaboration to finally see the light of day.”

RAM: Swedish Heavy Metal Titans to Release “Against” Full-Length October 9th on Metal Blade Records

– August 11th, 2026 –

New Video / Single Now Playing + Pre-Orders Available

Watch/stream RAM’s “Ghost Emperor” HERE

Swedish heavy metal titans RAM will release their new full-length, titled Against, on October 9th through Metal Blade Records.

It has been nearly seven years since The Throne Within, an album defined by its spiritual and metaphysical themes. With Against, RAM takes a more grounded approach, focusing on the experience of being pushed beyond reasonable limits and refusing to comply. The album captures that moment of resistance “that fire of defiance, which ultimately defines its title and message,” as the band collectively states.

For the production, RAM reunited with their longtime collaborator Johan Reiven, who had previously worked with the band on Lightbringer (2009). Without their own studio – having sold Black Path Studios – the band recorded at Studio Recordia in Varberg, Sweden. “At first, I wasn’t really comfortable not being in my own domain,” admits singer Oscar Carlquist. “But Johan is a far better sound tech than me and he did a wonderful job. We recorded the solos in a cool new way, as we set up two amps, one wet with a lot of effects and one dry with no effects. They were both mic’d up separately and they played into the enormous recording room in Recordia that is 150 square meters, where we placed two room mics (left and right).” The approach resulted in a rich, organic sound that enhanced the album’s overall character.

Musically, both guitarists continue to favor bridge pickups, maintaining a sharp and aggressive tone. The equipment used on Against reflects a classic approach, contributing to a sound that feels both timeless and direct. Sonically, Against was conceived as a return to classic recording philosophies. Drawing inspiration from the early works of Dio, MSG, and Sweet, the goal was to create an honest and unpolished sound. What you hear is what you get! In a music landscape increasingly divided into countless subgenres, the band positions itself deliberately outside of categorization. The title Against itself reinforces the band’s longstanding identity as nonconformists, viewing heavy metal as a form of sonic rebellion.

Watch RAM‘s “Ghost Emperor” video HERE

We do not give a fuck about all these new strange subgenres popping up. We try to play heavy metal in its purest form. We try to hang on to the center of that energy, and we are completely uninterested in 99% of the metal scene,” asserts Carlquist.

As a precursor to the release, RAM delivers the record’s lead single, “Ghost Emperor” and an accompanying video.

Carlquist comments, “This is the opener of the album, a straightforward classic heavy metal song and pure RAM. Lyrically, it deals with how our power structures exist to conceal the true rulers, the ones we will never see or know, pulling the strings behind the curtain and controlling us all.

RAM‘s Against full-length will be released on CD and digital formats as well as vinyl in the following color variants:

After all these years, RAM still perfectly embodies what real metal must be; passionate, Luciferian, antagonistic, and musically overpowering. Oscar’s vocals are some of the best in the genre; fearless and full of intent. A heavy metal soundtrack for the twilight of the world.” – Erik Danielsson, Watain

Just when you thought it was safe to be dead, RAM resurrects you only to kill you again. I have loved this band since the very start, and Against contains some of their strongest material to date, in terms of both lyrics and music. This is thinking man’s metal of the highest order!” – Christian Lindell, Portrait

There’s only one band in Sweden making classic heavy metal without it sounding like a pastiche or tribute act to the old days. Oscar is Sweden’s best and most charismatic singer and frontman. Why isn’t this one of the leading bands in the genre? Probably because they are completely uncompromising and refuse to bend the knee or kiss the asses required to reach the biggest stages. Against is every bit as good as everything else they’ve done. Elite!” – Sebastian Ramstedt, Necrophobic/Nifelheim

After seven years, RAM are finally back with another anthem-fueled album. While remaining true to their roots, they are opening their sound and manage to show a few new angles to their classic heavy metal. Can’t wait to bang my head to ‘Night Blade’ at a show of one of the best live bands of our times!” – S. Castevet, Vulture

Pure heavy metal, raw and unfiltered. Just my cup of tea!” – Niklas Stålvind, Wolf

Undone” is the latest single from Danish metal outfit, GRADIENCE. The track appears on the band’s debut full-length, Anomaly, set for release on September 4th via Metal Blade Records.

Issues vocalist Gavin Mistry, “‘Undone’ is about not keeping my negative thoughts unspoken – about saying them out loud when I’m trapped in a dark thought pattern. It’s about realizing you don’t have to deal alone with finding and fixing all your flaws but allowing your friends and loved ones to be there for you. To let them help you and not stand in the way of others helping you navigate your negative mind.”

Watch GRADIENCE‘s “Undone” video HERE.

Watch GRADIENCE‘s previously released video for “DeathwishHERE, “Master To The Slave,” HERE, and “White NoiseHERE.

On the inaugural full-length from this shrewdly named Danish duo, the usually clear-cut boundary between apocalyptic, sludgy blackened death metal and dark urban trap-rap is thrillingly pulverized. Lines of musical convention are further blurred by disarmingly emotive and intimate vocal lines, and a vibrant sound picture heaving with glacial synths and hypnotic sonic details. At first, it might daunt and confuse those who like their boundaries clear-cut, but at the heart of GRADIENCE‘s brash and radical new sound is an authentic and heartwarming new friendship.

In 2022, Gavin and guitarist Jakob Lærke Harris struck up an immediate creative rapport at a Copenhagen show for local deathcore heroes Cabal. Gavin had been signed to Sony in Denmark with his “grunge/rock/trap duoKXDS – a project stymied by the COVID disaster. Before that, he’d been involved with an underground hip-hop label/collective. “I had gained a little performance experience and was known as the authentic trap-rapper with emotional and melodic bits,” says Gavin.

His efforts attracted the ear of Jakob, who knew he’d found a kindred soul, with a voice that he was keen to work with. “It was an immediate musical and creative match,” enthuses Jakob. “I admired Gavin’s vivid lyrics and his ease, switching between delicate melody lines and hard flows; it just opened so many doors to explore in the songwriting process.”

GRADIENCE audibly generates real “planets aligning” energy. The tension and turbulence of Jakob’s extreme metal growl finds counterintuitive new context alongside Gavin’s fierce rhythms and rhymes, further enlivened by the spontaneous crackle to the performances – not least drummer Frederik Kjelstrup Hansen’s and bassist Patrick Petersen’s hammering rhythm section.

Lauds Metal Hammer Germany in an advance review of the record, “With a skillful blend of rap, metalcore, and black metal, the quartet goes a step further than well-known rap metal acts and weaves dark, atmospheric black metal riffs into trap beats and powerful breakdowns.” Adds Rock Hard Germany, “The raw power of the guitars and double bass meets hard-hitting flows, emotional melodies, and hypnotic electronic elements. In terms of quality, GRADIENCE can easily hold their own against the bigger names in the genre.”

Anomaly will be released on CD, LP and digital formats.

Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records are pleased to announce the signing of heavy rock power trio HIPPIE DEATH CULT.

The band comments, “We are beyond excited to announce our signing with Blacklight Media and Metal Blade Records, a label that has been a pillar of the metal community for decades and has always championed artistic integrity over trend-chasing, which is something we resonate with deeply. We are honored to be part of their esteemed lineage.

Our journey has always been fueled by passion, creativity, and authenticity and we feel right at home working with a team who understands and shares these values. We can’t wait to unleash some of our most visceral music to date via one of the most respected labels in heavy metal history. Fires are burning and wheels are turning.”

HIPPIE DEATH CULT has steadily become one of the most exciting bands in the modern heavy music scene, pairing massive riffs, deep grooves, psychedelic textures, thoughtful lyricism, and hypnotizing melodies into a sound that feels both classic and contemporary. Formed in Portland, Oregon, the trio – guitarist Eddie Brnabic, vocalist/bassist Laura Phillips, and drummer Harry Silvers – has earned a reputation for delivering dynamic, emotionally charged songs and electrifying live performances that showcase their distinctive sound, transcending traditional genres and captivating fans worldwide.

Since their early releases with Cursed Tongue Records and Heavy Psych Sounds Records, the band has built significant momentum. Their 2019 debut album, 111, and its 2021 follow-up, Circle Of Days, received strong praise from critics and listeners alike, with both records topping the Doom Charts and numerous “Best Of” lists, solidifying HIPPIE DEATH CULT as a standout name in the underground scene.

Following these releases, the band’s evolution into a power trio marked a turning point, with Laura Phillips stepping into lead vocal duties and infusing even more identity and force into the group’s sound and chemistry. This progression came fully into focus on Helichrysum, the band’s first full-length studio album featuring Phillips on lead vocals. Released in 2023, the album was widely praised for its stronger songwriting, greater dynamic range, and the chemistry of the new lineup, becoming their most successful release to date in terms of streams and sales.

The band supported Helichrysum with over 250 shows across North America and Europe, including performances on major festival stages and headlining spots, further showcasing the raw power and intensity that have made their live shows a must-see.

Now signed to Blacklight Media and Metal Blade Records, HIPPIE DEATH CULT is entering a new phase with the most reach and momentum of their career. With a growing international fanbase, an increasingly refined sound, and a new release on the horizon, the band is poised to take the next leap forward. Stay tuned for a new full-length in 2027.

The band will be roadbound for the remaining weeks of Summer and much of the Fall beginning with a US tour that runs from August 14th through September 12th. HIPPIE DEATH CULT will head to Europe and the United Kingdom on September 30th for another stretch of live dates through November 1st.

After months of dedicated work behind the scenes, transforming our garage into a creative sanctuary and crafting a new album, we’re pumped to finally hit the road again this Summer and Fall,” the band notes. “This tour is all about reconnecting with our incredible fans across the States and Europe, welcoming new recruits, jamming on some classics, and giving everyone in attendance a chance to be among the first to experience some new material before it hits the streets. We can’t wait to share these transcendent moments with you all!
