Hailing from the foggy Southwestern city of Bergen, Norway – where mountains and ocean collide – Misty Coast release their first full length So-Cal tinged, minimalist psych-pop offering into the ether.

Comprised of The Megaphonic Thrift members Linn Frøkedal & Richard Myklebust, the duo’s music exists in an ethereal and twinkling dream world, drifting in slow motion through an ethereal haze.

From the swirling, fuzzed-out sounds of ‘Funny World’, through upbeat and sunshine kissed ‘Leap Year’ to the distant and eerie ‘Heavy Head On A Body’ the album wraps the listener in a lush cloak, navigating a floating world of suspended melodies and lo-fi sensibilities. Using their minimalist approach to music, the duo bring a set of alien eyes to the world, inhabiting a place where the simple meets the bizarre, and the grim becomes the beautiful.

The album was crafted during a series of late night studio sessions where the pair drank a lot of red wine, listened to the rain outside and jammed on instruments they don’t normally play. “Richard put down some juicy bass lines, while Linn came up with some quirky guitar melodies. We had no snare, so we clapped it with our hands. These lo-fi recording sessions went on in our apartment in Bergen, where we recorded most of the stuff on really low volume to not bother our neighbors in the middle of the night.”

They brought these recordings to one of Bergens most talented young producers, Matias Tellez (Young Dreams), who worked his magic into the songs. Kim Åge Furuhaug (who also plays the drums on most of our live shows) spiced up some of the lazy 808 beats with real drums, and Mira Tiruchelvam (9 grader nord) played some lovely Tamil flute on two tracks. The fabulous Sir Dupermann mastered the album.

Sound tracking their day to day life in Bergen, Frøkedal explains “The lyrics often circle around the memories of all the strange places we’ve been and all the weird people we’ve met, and how it sometimes feels like everything around us is just a play – and how everybody (including ourselves) is faking it. We got inspired by the beautiful “The Truman Show”, our Turkish taxi driver, our short-term depressions, our funny and brave friends, our heroes and all the drunk, charming people hanging out in the bars we manage – and how they change their ways during the night, turning into tiny monsters.”

London-based Fever Dream exist to create mesmerising guitar music that warps and contorts our definitions of neo-psychedelia and brittle post-punk.

Following on from the release of their critically acclaimed 2015 debut ‘Moyamoya’, the band are pleased to unveil their latest full-length project entitled ‘Squid’, set for release on the 29th September via Club AC30.

‘Squid’ asserts itself as a testimony to the band’s voracious appetite for heady, frenetic noise pop and acts as an outlet to showcase their intense skill as musicians. Barbed grunge and shoegaze combines with murky punk riffs to create a 10-track exploration through hedonistic and unrelenting sounds and noise.

It’s clear that Fever Dream’s sound is drawn from a melting pot of inspirations. Tracks like ‘Worms’ and ‘Clear Mind’ can be heard to channel the angst and aggression previously demonstrated by grunge forerunners, Sonic Youth or Smashing Pumpkins.

The band successfully distinguish themselves from their labelmates and contemporaries through the use of lead singer Adrian Fleet’s immersive lyricism, which manages to float perfectly amongst the serene chaos the band are so adept at creating.

‘Heads Will Roll’ and ‘Ghost’ fall more in line with the material most Club AC30 fans will be familiar with: oceanic, expansive shoegaze that unquestionably stalks the unsettled territory between MBV and PiL: suffused with melody and discordance.

‘Squid’ is a record that is full of excitement and surprises and is an exhilarating journey through a multitude of genres that Fever Dream manage to merge perfectly together.

After 2015’s triumphant return with the ‘Were We Ever Here’ EP, Brighton shoegaze luminaries Air Formation, are set to release their fifth long-player ‘Near Miss’, on March 9th via the Club AC30 label.

‘Were We Ever Here’ marked Air Formation’s return following their split in 2010 and was comprised mostly around the songs written prior. ‘Near Miss’ is the first album of entirely new material the band have written and released in seven years.

The album was recorded and mixed by Pat Collier (The House of Love, Primal Scream, Jesus and Mary Chain) in just two days. The band set about expanding on earlier sounds by creating an album that is rawer than previous efforts and explores the likes of post-rock (Clouds of Orion), free-form improvised space-rock (Formation 4) and three minute sonic assaults (Vanishing Act), together with the uplifting melancholia Air Formation are known for.

“Sometimes you wish you could just disappear…” guitarist and frontman Matt Bartram tells us, “be free of any responsibility, show your true emotions without consequence, go back to the way you were in those rose tinted days gone by…. ‘Vanishing Act’ is that voice inside your head telling you can do that. The increased tempo of the middle section reflects the rush of euphoria before reality hits and it all comes crashing down again.”

Air Formation formed in 2000, long before spiritual forbearers Slowdive and Loop were considered acceptable influences. Since signing to Club AC30, a long time bastion of the modern shoegaze sound, the band have gained a devoted following and received critical acclaim, with Drowned In Sound describing the band’s as “one of the nation’s most consistent outfits” and their incendiary live shows have seen them share stages with the likes of Vessels and Efterklang.

Pinkshinyultrablast, Russia’s finest export, have announced their third album ‘Miserable Miracles’, out May 4th digitally and on vinyl through Club AC30 (UK) and Shelflife (USA). The band have also announced an extensive UK tour to coincide this with the 10 year anniversary of their very first show.

With vocalist Lyubov recently moving to LA, the band have been exploring new ways of composing and collaborating. Partnered with a line-up refinement, the new material sees Pinkshinyultrablast venture down a more electronic path while experimenting with new sounds and genres (including inspiration from Japanese pop such as Chiemi Manabe and Yellow Magic Orchestra).

Originally hailing from a city more synonymous with the State Conservatory than a gang of shoegaze addicts, the band have nevertheless seen great critical and commercial success since their debut album ‘Everything Else Matters’ and follow-up ‘Grandfeathered’. They’ve been compared to bands such as Lush but this is no mere throwback tribute – due to their sharp, icy electronics and ability to subvert the genre, bringing something new to the table. They possess not only the spirit of late 80s/early 90s British bands like Cocteau Twins, but also machine-made sounds of the same era from Sabres Of Paradise or Global Communication, not to mention wider vibrations like Cluster, Popul Vuh, Terry Riley and Philip Glass.

In February 2008 Pinkshinyultrablast played their first ever show at the Money Honey Club in Saint Petersburg and after spending the following years crafting their sound they were finally able to bring their unique project to the UK supporting Moon Duo at Village Underground and performing a session for Lauren Lavern at BBC6 Music.

On ‘Miserable Miracles’ Lyubov’s delicate vocals soar effortlessly above haunting ambience and ethereal embellishments complimented by driving motoric beats. Singles ‘In The Hanging Gardens’ and ‘Find Your Saint’ perfectly showcase the band’s new, more electronic direction while retaining their signature quirkiness with layers of experimentation.

Elsewhere on the likes of ‘Dance AM’ and ‘Triangles’ retrocentric 80’s production highlights newer synth-pop influences whereas tracks such as ‘Blue Hour’ and ‘Earth and Elsewhere’ are blissful synth-wave soundtracks which give the otherwise upbeat album space to breathe. Altogether the third album from the innovative trio is one that flows effortlessly as a continuous piece of work and reveals that even within a genre so widely explored, there’s still room for modernization amongst those willing to push boundaries.

‘Lonestar EP’ is a sonic delight that revels in all things psychedelic, from 60s garage to 90s shoegaze, and recalls the likes of Spiritualized, Black Angels and Stone Roses. Reverb laden guitars are used to create an engulfing sea of feedback that washes over smooth melodies and slacker beats, while intense vocals are soaked in dreamlike effects that soar over effortless instrumentation.

It was recorded at Perry Vale Studios by Pat Collier (The Jesus and Mary Chain, X-Ray Spex) and conveys a number of personal themes from depression and grief to domestic violence. The band tells us; “We wear our hearts on our sleeve and pour that into our music. Everything is down to real experiences, real music about real life”. Yet alongside the depth of subject matter the release also contains a message of love, for one’s self and those around you.

It’s easy to hear the heart that has not only gone into each note but that encapsulates the bands entire ethos, none more than in lead single ‘Mission Hills’ which is about emotional distance in a relationship but also the loss of a close friend, a victim of the tragic Manchester Arena attack. It’s obvious here that the band don’t just capture the sound of their hometown but also carry a part of it with them in a very personal way.

London’s duo Black Doldrums are renowned for delivering multiple layers of echo-drenched guitar and heavy relentless drums, creating their transient and euphoric dark shoegaze and continuing to astonish audiences.

Recently announcing the signing of a record deal with Club AC30, effects-laden singer-guitarist Kevin Gibbard, anchored by the powerful precision of drummer Sophia Lacroix, will be releasing their 4 track EP later this year, co-produced by engineer James Aparicio whose credits include Spiritualized, Nick Cave and Depeche Mode.

‘Sad Paradise’, taken from the poem Allen Ginsberg gifted to Jack Kerouac “The Denver Doldrums”, is an expansive, completely collaborative piece of work. Gibbard tells us “With just the two of us, it’s a close relationship with its challenges. We don’t have a lot of people we can rely on and for creativity this can be both productive and destructive as well as rewarding due to the fact we both have something in common to work against. It’s us against them. Lyrically, I like to keep things simple and base each song around a theme as appose to a specific subject. More a feeling than a story. In terms of composition, each song ends up being a journey as we like to experiment and push it as far as we can with just the two of us. Our whole approach is that a song should write itself.”

Recalling the early ragged glory of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club or the Black Angels, Black Doldrums are instantly recognised for their malevolent drums and sonic ferocious riffs. The band is influenced by much of the proto-psych of the 60s, icy post-punk of the 80’s and the Brit-rock swagger of the 90’s and their gothic aesthetic, charmed from Syd Barrett’s ‘Madcap’ era.

Portsmouth based psych aficionados, Is Bliss, are pleased to announce the release of their highly anticipated debut album ‘Strange Communication’, released 7th June via Club AC30.

Having received critical acclaim for their first two EP’s; ‘Velvet Dreams’ and the follow-up ‘The Honeycomb Explosion’, the south coast trio have been busy in the studio and have created a no nonsense, full on, psych induced jewel.

Formed via a shared love of Slowdive, Spacemen 3 and Verve, their incendiary live shows have caused a stir across the underground psych scene which has led to a swift rise for the band having formed in late 2015.

Signed to lauded London-based independent record label Club AC30 (Pinkshiunyultrablast/Ringo Deathstarr/Flyying Colours), Is Bliss have already supported the likes of The Jesus and Mary Chain, Wolf Alice, Telescopes, Nine Black Alps, Mark Gardener and Robin Guthrie in a whirlwind three years for the band.

On ‘Strange Communication’, Is Bliss paint a sprawling sonic picture. Opening with the impressive grandeur of ‘Belong’, the hypnotically charged reverberations of ‘Can’t Sleep Forever’ incite a drug-induced cataclysm. An emotional rawness can be heard in Jimmy Stuart’s passioned vocal and it sets the tone for ‘Strange Communication’. This is the sound of an individual desperate to say afloat as chaos ensues all around.

Melodic new single ‘All I See Is You’ is an intimate and confessional tale of love and heartbreak while the mesmeric ‘Fall’ evokes ‘A Storm in Heaven’ era Verve, fizzing with effervescent guitars and blissed out shoegaze.
