The term ‘back from the grave’ takes on a whole new meaning with the release of this (thought to be long lost) epic recording by the much-missed British Doom Metal lords: Cathedral. ‘Society’s Pact With Satan’ was the last ever recording made by the band, back back in 2012. It was recorded at the end of the sessions for their swan song album; 2013’s ‘The Last Spire’.
But, for some reason, the 30-minute track was not mixed at the time, thus pretty much forgotten about by everyone involved, until very recently. Rediscovered by producer Jaime Gomez Arellano, whilst sorting through his old studio recordings, he excitedly alerted the band, saying that he had discovered a long-lost gem. Upon hearing it, the band members were convinced enough to agree that it should see a commercial release.
So, here we have it: the final sermon by Cathedral and what a way to go out. It’s an unapologetic, uncompromising exercise in macabre observations, musical eccentricity, brutal riffing and general arcane self-indulgence. There genuinely was/is no other band like Cathedral.

‘Society’s Pact With Satan’ is released via Rise Above Records on October 3rd 2025.

Asgard were a 3-piece, proto-progressive rock band from Coventry, UK. They were initially influenced by early Pink Floyd and The

Velvet Underground, before becoming more experimental in their own right. They soon caught the attention of legendary DJ and

general tastemaker; John Peel, who had planned to sign them to his Dandelion Records, before financial problems signalled the

demise of said label. In early 1970, they recorded these three tracks on a one-sided 12” acetate. They are the only recordings

by the band still known to still exist. The sole surviving acetate in question, had been sitting in the bass player’s garage since

the 70s and was not in the best of shape; sections of the lacquer had actually flaked off and had to be meticulously glued back on.

Thankfully it has been lovingly restored for the purpose of this archival release by Rise Above Relics.

Limited vinyl pressing of Trivialities is released by Rise Above Relics on February 14th. You can pre-order a copy here:
