‘How The West Was Lost’ captures Plum’s renewed creative fire.

Plum’s single ‘How The West Was Lost’ marks a powerful statement from Plum, the South African alt-rock trio originally formed in 1996 and known for their fearless fusion of trip-hop, acid rock, nu-metal, drum’n’bass and funk. Following a 17-year hiatus after the release of All and Nothing (2005) and their 2024 reunion, the band returns in razor-sharp form. Driven by tight, syncopated grooves and an urgent, agenda-charged pulse, the track delivers uncompromising, truth-bomb lyrics that cut through the noise.

Did you dig deep?
Before they dug deeper
One too many people die before they call it murder
Annihilator, negotiator
Follow me down, turn around I’ll get back to you later
To my surprise, I got no sleep in my eyes
Been awake for days and I’m living in a haze
We are the ones stepping up the new age
Twenty-twenty-fix we empower the mix

And I cannot give up
And we will not give up

And the rest is history now, the wars all cost
And the writings on the wall now, the best have lost
And the rate of change keeps growing, yet we’re sliding back
And the weight is on your shoulder, how the west is wack

People get together kamikaze attack
We can never go back I’ma never back up
There will be division, unless we take the mission
Unless we make the vision, let the truth speak up
Even when they blow it, they come on and then show it
Destroy it and we know it will never be enough
We could take it from them come on, get together
Come on, get together: before they fuck it up

And I cannot give up
And we will not give up

And the rest is history now, that the wars all cost
And the writings on the wall now, that the best have lost
And the rate of change keeps growing, yet we’re sliding back
And the weight is on your shoulder, how the west is wack

And the rate of change keeps growing
Yet we’re sliding fast
And the writings on the wall now
How the west was lost
