Just when you thought you had heard it all…. Evil Grave were an exceptionally unique
underground rock band from Malta that shook the islands with uncompromising attitude and
dark imagery.

Heavily influenced by Black Sabbath and early progressive rock with a traditional
Maltese twist, Death From Malta, gathers together all known existing material from the band.
Featuring 15-minute track: Machinery.

The band were discovered by Lee Dorrian when he was on vacation in Malta several years ago, after asking around about underground bands that may have existed on the islands during the late 60s/early 70s.

The term ‘back from the grave’ takes on a whole new meaning with the release of this (thought to be long lost) epic recording by the much-missed British Doom Metal lords: Cathedral. ‘Society’s Pact With Satan’ was the last ever recording made by the band, back back in 2012. It was recorded at the end of the sessions for their swan song album; 2013’s ‘The Last Spire’.
But, for some reason, the 30-minute track was not mixed at the time, thus pretty much forgotten about by everyone involved, until very recently. Rediscovered by producer Jaime Gomez Arellano, whilst sorting through his old studio recordings, he excitedly alerted the band, saying that he had discovered a long-lost gem. Upon hearing it, the band members were convinced enough to agree that it should see a commercial release.
So, here we have it: the final sermon by Cathedral and what a way to go out. It’s an unapologetic, uncompromising exercise in macabre observations, musical eccentricity, brutal riffing and general arcane self-indulgence. There genuinely was/is no other band like Cathedral.

‘Society’s Pact With Satan’ is released via Rise Above Records on October 3rd 2025.

Heavyboots – Who Knows, Who Cares? Birmingham 1969 rare proto doom metal acetate

Heavyboots were from Birmingham and blew peoples minds, whilst active between the late 60s/early 70s. They never released any music at the time, but did record two bone-crushing tracks to a 7″ acetate in 1969. The a-side from the disc has finally been released, for the first time ever, as part of the mammoth underground compilation album called: ‘Yeah Man, It’s Bloody Heavy!!’ via Rise Above Relics (an offshoot of Rise Above Records). Crimson Earth – Heathen Woman

Dorset’s Crimson Earth were an immediate gut-punch to the local
scene in August 1970, quickly moving from rehearsals to rapturously
received gigs. By the end of that year they had won a competition
to crown the most popular regional band (beating off competition
from other local favourites Graveyard), which led to a television
appearance and an audition for EMI.
The band was comprised of Sam Champ (vocals), Dave Martin
(drums) and brothers Dave Wynn (guitar) and Chris Wynn (bass). In
1971 they started working with the Plastic Dog agency from Bristol
and toured the country, though mainstream success proved
surprisingly elusive, with the band splitting in 1976.
Crimson Earth recorded six original tracks on a reel-to-reel tape in
1972 of which ‘Heathen Woman’ is the standout – the classic tale
of a relationship gone biblically sour.
