“We wrote and recorded this track right before I almost got killed in Oakland. We were out on tour with Cloakroom and Tony Molina, so before Doyle joined Nothing. Forgot it existed until a couple years ago while demoing with Nick in Oakland for The Great DIsmal. Hard to imagine a more crushing piece of music than the Alex version, but looking back and how things progressed following recording, this version really holds heavy as well to me. Looking back, its almost like an eerie premonition now of how quickly things can turn devastating.”

I think the production techniques I used on the vocals in this single are quite interesting. Jack recorded three separate vocal takes which I then play all at the same time in the chorus. I pan one vocal to the left side of the mix, one to the right and one centered. The two vocal takes on either side are drenched in reverb and the effect of this feels like the vocals are coming from everywhere.

I first contacted Grant in December after I heard a few of his songs on Reddit. Their light and happy guitar jangles captivated me and the lo-fi production of the album further added to the warmth felt throughout. I knew I wanted to work with him as he had a talent for quirky songwriting that reminded me of Malkmus. While talking we found we both listened to similar music, and we enjoyed discussing out favourite albums and bands. The music of Baltimore at an angle is written and recorded entirely by G. Gillingham at his home in Bournemouth. They stem from his need to put feeling to sound, as is present in most compulsive musicians.

Baltimore at an Angle’s debut album broadcast’s Grant’s, spur of the moment, songwriting and emits DIY ethos of making music purely for fun. Heavily inspired by Pavement’s approach to making music, all the vocals on this lo-fi, hypnagogic pop album were recorded using default apple earphones and arranged in garage band. Whatever your tastes, Baltimore at an Angle is the perfect album to play on a sunny, winter morning.

“Baltimore at an Angle started as a dumping ground for tracks that weren’t quite ready for Grant’s main solo project Grrr Ant. Some disappeared into the abyss of an anonymous Soundcloud whilst others lived on a USB stick. Eventually enough tracks were amassed which all shared a similar vibe so Baltimore at an Angle’s first LP was born. Grant has never visited Baltimore, nor plans to any time soon, however, the city became emblematic of the autumnal Americana that has heavily inspired the vibe of these tracks. Plus it’s certainly a band name that was unlikely to have been taken! If you fancy seeing the winter out with tracks written in the glow of the late autumn sun or by pumpkin-spice candlelight, then give this a spin.”

Hailing from the foggy Southwestern city of Bergen, Norway – where mountains and ocean collide – Misty Coast release their first full length So-Cal tinged, minimalist psych-pop offering into the ether.

Comprised of The Megaphonic Thrift members Linn Frøkedal & Richard Myklebust, the duo’s music exists in an ethereal and twinkling dream world, drifting in slow motion through an ethereal haze.

From the swirling, fuzzed-out sounds of ‘Funny World’, through upbeat and sunshine kissed ‘Leap Year’ to the distant and eerie ‘Heavy Head On A Body’ the album wraps the listener in a lush cloak, navigating a floating world of suspended melodies and lo-fi sensibilities. Using their minimalist approach to music, the duo bring a set of alien eyes to the world, inhabiting a place where the simple meets the bizarre, and the grim becomes the beautiful.

The album was crafted during a series of late night studio sessions where the pair drank a lot of red wine, listened to the rain outside and jammed on instruments they don’t normally play. “Richard put down some juicy bass lines, while Linn came up with some quirky guitar melodies. We had no snare, so we clapped it with our hands. These lo-fi recording sessions went on in our apartment in Bergen, where we recorded most of the stuff on really low volume to not bother our neighbors in the middle of the night.”

They brought these recordings to one of Bergens most talented young producers, Matias Tellez (Young Dreams), who worked his magic into the songs. Kim Åge Furuhaug (who also plays the drums on most of our live shows) spiced up some of the lazy 808 beats with real drums, and Mira Tiruchelvam (9 grader nord) played some lovely Tamil flute on two tracks. The fabulous Sir Dupermann mastered the album.

Sound tracking their day to day life in Bergen, Frøkedal explains “The lyrics often circle around the memories of all the strange places we’ve been and all the weird people we’ve met, and how it sometimes feels like everything around us is just a play – and how everybody (including ourselves) is faking it. We got inspired by the beautiful “The Truman Show”, our Turkish taxi driver, our short-term depressions, our funny and brave friends, our heroes and all the drunk, charming people hanging out in the bars we manage – and how they change their ways during the night, turning into tiny monsters.”

All copies ordered through the AC30 shop will ship a few days prior to the official release date of 22nd September 2017, and will get sent a link to digitally download the lossless files.

London-based Fever Dream exist to create mesmerising guitar music that warps and contorts our definitions of neo-psychedelia and brittle post-punk.

Following on from the release of their critically acclaimed 2015 debut ‘Moyamoya’, the band are pleased to unveil their latest full-length project entitled ‘Squid’, set for release on the 29th September via Club AC30.

‘Squid’ asserts itself as a testimony to the band’s voracious appetite for heady, frenetic noise pop and acts as an outlet to showcase their intense skill as musicians. Barbed grunge and shoegaze combines with murky punk riffs to create a 10-track exploration through hedonistic and unrelenting sounds and noise.

It’s clear that Fever Dream’s sound is drawn from a melting pot of inspirations. Tracks like ‘Worms’ and ‘Clear Mind’ can be heard to channel the angst and aggression previously demonstrated by grunge forerunners, Sonic Youth or Smashing Pumpkins.

The band successfully distinguish themselves from their labelmates and contemporaries through the use of lead singer Adrian Fleet’s immersive lyricism, which manages to float perfectly amongst the serene chaos the band are so adept at creating.

‘Heads Will Roll’ and ‘Ghost’ fall more in line with the material most Club AC30 fans will be familiar with: oceanic, expansive shoegaze that unquestionably stalks the unsettled territory between MBV and PiL: suffused with melody and discordance.

‘Squid’ is a record that is full of excitement and surprises and is an exhilarating journey through a multitude of genres that Fever Dream manage to merge perfectly together.
