Famous for presenting domestic punk rock Greet -compilation album (1979) is subtitled “Finnish favorites on the same record”. The ones who bumped into the album Eppu Normal, Pelle Million and Ratsian in addition, the second half of the B-side has been engraved with almost two minutes of teeny-sounding, but seductively ear-catching punk rock from a band from Turku TV’s Slaves. Calling Orjie a big favorite might be considered a bit of an exaggeration, but in 1979 the band’s direction was definitely on the rise. In addition to being included in the Hilse album, it had received a recording contract Kerberos with the sign. The band had an album’s worth of material, and Kerberos’ first single released in 1980, Tavalinen inmins, made it all the way to the TV’s Discraat.

In the spring of 1980, the band later disbanded About Brothers of the Soul known Jouko Hohkobecame a guitarist and started gigging hard through the summer. As often happens, a joyful summer was followed by an autumn, and in the autumn the band broke up before their first album. So that TV’s Orjat doesn’t end up being a hard, but short-lived part of history known to first-wave punk enthusiasts out of only three officially released songs, Black Records has felt it necessary to dig through the archives and collect an entire album’s worth of material from TV’s Orji for publication.

Our dear audience collection begins with those three released songs, followed by two songs unearthed from the Kerberos archives, which were made during the single’s sessions and left unreleased. The rest of the collection, 8 demo tracks from 1979 and five songs from 1980 Province-from the gig, are completely unpublished before.

“Why TV’s Orjat? Well, because Hilselp 1’s song (1979) and the single for Kerberos (1980) are still doing surprisingly well. Unauthorized online compilations and YouTube downloads have appeared as well as cover versions of contemporary bands. A band with a bigger reputation would have deserved an LP already in its own time,” says the album’s bassist Hoss Siivonen curated with Jari Nikkola.

Album Our dear audience! TV’s slaves 1978–1980 will appear as a limited vinyl edition of 500 copies on 11.11.2022. The album is accompanied by a 16-page zine printed in A4 size, which contains anecdotes about the band and song lyrics.

The new normal album will be released in September, the first single can be pre-listened now

Founded in 1983 in Äkäslompolo Vivisection only had time to work for three years in his lifetime. The band from the foothills of Lapland was one of the northernmost hardcore punk bands in the world. The band, which performed mostly north of the Arctic Circle, played only a dozen gigs, the southernmost of which was at Pietarsaari’s punk festivals in the summer of 1985. Vivisektio didn’t get any recording done, but ended up being a question due to their exotic home location Trivial Pursuitiin.

Vivisektio was founded a second time in Oulu in 2008 with a new singer and drummer. As a musical line, the band still has the hardcore of the early 80s, with anarcho and post-punk influences from the same era. Vivisektio released their debut album 1984 (Of the Year Records 2011, followed by two EPs as well as the participation of the legendary Maximum Rock’n’Roll -magazine’s compilation disc. In the spring of 2022, Vivisektio released an album containing demos recorded in 1985.

Since their new arrival, Vivisektio has toured Europe and played in a total of 12 countries. Although only one of the band members lives in Äkäslompolo anymore, the band’s lyrics often have a Lapland perspective and deal with, among other things, the ongoing natural destruction in Lapland.

Svart Records releases the band’s second album The new normal As a black vinyl edition of 500 copies and digitally on September 16, 2022. Kalevala and especially their debut album People No Names is a prime example of a record that should’ve been big, sold only a handful and only later on was reappraised as the masterful progressive rock epic that it is. Originally released 50 years ago on Finnlevythen one of the largest labels in Finland, and not marketed at all, there were not more than 500 copies of the album pressed. When people finally realised the quality of the music on this piece of wax, prices for original copies on the secondhand market went blasting through the roof and eventually into four figures.

Kalevala’s story began at the turn of the new decade in 1970, and they played Cream-style hard rock with a power trio lineup. The band’s founding member Remu Aaltonen was kicked out the following year, and a renewed lineup immersed themselves in progressive rock. People No Names was released in 1972, and eventually Finnlevy had no idea what to do with this kind of difficult new youth music.

This 50th Anniversary vinyl reissue will be released 4th of November 2022 with the original gatefold layout plus all lyrics printed for the first time, new liner notes plus an interview with vocalist Harri Saksala. The album has been remastered for vinyl by Finland’s premier progressive rock specialist Pauli Saastamoinen at Finnvox.

Hot on the sold-out heels of the three previous Svart-issued early 80’s synth pop and underground electronic music compilations (Satan in Love, Dance for Your Life, Cold War On The Rocks) comes the last part of the quadrilogy: Black Holethat reaches the final frontier of collectable cult synth disco music: privately released and completely unreleased music from 40 years ago.

Black Hole has been again compiled by Mikko Mattlarwhose encyclopedic knowledge in the field of Finnish electronic music produces 20 cuts of electro-cult has helped him dig up 20 cuts of rare groove from obscure regional compilation records, seven inches of which only a test pressing exists, demo tapes and privately financed singles. Stylistically the compilation moves from 1979 disco funk as performed by peak function on their unreleased record to homebrewed synth visions by late 80’s bedroom wizards.

Interesting curiosities among the 20 tracks include the riveting dance number by Jarkko Väljä, who received some fame back in the day as a Michael Jackson impersonator, and released one 7” single, that has become an expensive rarity.  Another thing you wouldn’t believe existed at all if it wasn’t included here is “Israel Is Real” by Wea short-lived gospel vocal quartet, accompanied here by a drum machine and a synthesizer, which makes for an unforgettable and surprisingly catchy four-minute piece of underground gospel disco from 1983.

The Compilation Black Hole – Finnish Disco and Electronic Music From Private Pressings and Unreleased Tapes 1979-1991 will be released by Black Records on double vinyl and CD on October 14th.

Svart Records will release a queer album that was once shelved in Kaink snake Boy in October

Unpublished in 1984 Son of a snakealbum is an exceptional case in the history of Finnish pop culture. It was the first – and only in decades – attempt to openly launch a queer art career and direct it to the awareness of the average consumer.

Ralf Örnin yes Jaana Rinteen at the heart of the project he conceived was Son of a snakealso known in the punk and underground circles of the 1980s Baseas. His character or the album recorded at the time has nothing to do with homoseeotypes, it was a real way out of the margins and even a decent smelly attitude.

Unlike big world artists like Frankie Goes To Hollywood or Bronski Beat, The Snake Boy didn’t even try to adapt to the demands of the mainstream. It was a real outsider that shook the Conservatives and the common people even if they had never released a piece of music. On the other hand, the time is also shown by the fact that if an HLBTIQ-positive album had been released in Finland in 1984, it would have shown a real rebellion by the publisher. It happened differently. When the record company heard the final release, it was immediately shelved.

Svart Records finally releases The boy of the serpent an album bearing his own name on October 7, 2022, as if in a time capsule from the world of nightclubs and dark backrooms in the 80s in Helsinki. Accompanying the limited edition of the 350-piece black vinyl edition, an appendix will be published in which the artist himself tells the background of the project and his music – and, of course, his own story of the gap between the subcultures and dominant cultures of the 1980s.

Red Rot “Sick of Living”
New album out August 26th 2022

Black Records lets loose Red Rot’s debut progressive Death Metal album Unhappiness on August 26th 2022.

Video for second single “Dysmorphia”, out now:

Italy’s Red Rot is the new extreme metal band of Luciano Lorusso George and Davide Tisoformerly of Ephal Duathand their debut Unhappinessis a relentless opus of technical beauty and bludgeoning grace.  Today Black Records announces the second choice cut off the album, “Dysmorphia”

“Dysmorphia is a song about losing touch with reality and one’s appearance: it felt natural to make a video of a man trapped into his own mind. “Body Dysmorphic Disorder” is a condition that brings an individual to experience episodes where self image is regularly altered because of trauma. The character in the video is getting ready to leave a motel room, the whole ninety seconds of the songs is pretty much a PTSD flashback of what happened the night before, a complete splitting frenzy that eventually implodes once in front of the mirror”, describes Red Rot‘s Davide Tiso“When I started talking with director Leonardo Candidi and actor Satya Schulberg about the project we started with Apocalypse Now and the Martin Sheen breakdown scene. The symbolism of covering one’s eyes with one’s hands is pictured as an attempt to hide from reality and masks one’s appearance. This is both a child like motion and an ancestral symbol of communication that we thought would embody the inner chaos and quasi break down of the story, and it’s included in a way that people would understand without even realizing it. Musically Dysmorphia summarizes what Red Rot is about: a clash of oblique riffing and pummelling force delivered with urgency and abrasiveness.”

Dubbed after a French expression to describe a sense of profound discontentment, the idea of losing the taste for life, Red Rot’s Unhappiness was written, recorded and mixed between October 2020 and May 2021 as the world was reeling in the throes of pandemic. Featuring eclectic drummer Ron Bertrand and bass virtuoso Ian Baker to flesh out their powerhouse of cutting-edge extreme metal, Red Rot are an emerging force to be reckoned with.

The seventeen songs in Unhappiness are musically intense, raw and passionate, but with a multi-faceted elegance that envisages Red Rot appealing to fans of radical and heavy music right across the spectrum. Engorged with elements of Death Metal, Doom and Thrash: Unhappiness sounds like a twisted blend of the roots of early Morbid Angel and Paradise Lost with the experimental discord of Voivod and the hardcore clash and klang of bands like Converge. Lorusso’s lyrics on Unhappiness explore themes of mental illness, psychological deviance, rage, gloom and paranoia, all delivered with agonized and emotional conviction. Davide Tiso further illustrates their themes and origins in his concept for Red Rot by explaining:

“When it was time to give a name to the music coming up, I thought about two elements: something sulphuric, malignant in its essence, combined with the idea of rot.
I found out that the Red Rot present in the vegetable tanned leather of old books that remain stored and untouched in humid locations is a result of binding components turning into sulphuric acid. This idea of old knowledge left rotting into itself created sulphuric essence clicked with me. It took quite a long time for me to start playing rotting sounding music: my career started playing sophisticated jazzy sounding metal. Now I feel I added sulphur to my music and Red Rot is the result of it. Apparently the damage caused by red rot is irreversible, I like to think that Red Rot’s music could do the same”.

This festering and gangrenous outbreak erupted into Unhappiness which was then mixed and mastered by producer extraordinaire Jamie King at Basement Studio in Salem, North Carolina. Unhappiness’s resulting mix sounds abrasive but legible and defined, featuring punishing, heartfelt vocals, burly, relentless low-tuned guitars, pummelling drums and a warm, encompassing bass tone that makes Red Rot a primal but distinctly modern beast.

Clocking in at the perfect 38 minute mark, the songs on Red Rot’s Unhappiness alternate between one minute bursts and three minute nightmares resulting in a fervent but cathartic listening experience.
Niklas Sundin’s deviantly surreal artwork adorns the cover of Unhappinessshowcasing a stifling and despondent atmosphere.

That Unhappiness is such a well developed and conceived debut album should be no surprise to fans of Tiso and Lorusso’s earlier work, but newcomers to Red Rot’s fungal network of dominating putrefaction have oozing spoils to savor once this album drops.

Red Rot’s debut album Unhappiness is out on August the 26th 2022 via Black Records worldwide.

Check out Thromdarr‘s brand new video Frozen As A Moon here:

The final decade of the last millennium was a significant period for the birth of Finnish extreme metal. In the late 1980s, speed metal found its way into the country, and was immediately followed by thrash metal. Afterwards, death and black metal bands started to pop up in every nook and cranny. Some of those rose to an international fame, while others stayed in the shadows waiting for their turn. Through the years, Black Records has already brought to light many lost treasures of the Finnish metal scene. This June it will be the turn of Thromdarr from Riihimäki and their old tapes excavated from the band’s archives.

The story of Thromdarr reaches back to 1989, when the band’s guitarist Mika Kyöstilä formed Nymphomaniaca precursor to Thromdarr, together with Ari “Ave” Auvinen. When the band went through a lineup change, they changed their name to Necrobiosis and eventually to Thromdarr in 1991. According to the band, they entered the scene with the punk attitude of learning by doing. They followed the steps of their idols and started to make fast and heavy metal in the vein of Sodom, Destruction, Kreator, Slayer, Possessed, Bathory, Celtic Frost, Sepultura, Obituary, Pestilence and Death.

Early on in their career, Thromdarr had already played with many renowned metal acts, such as Barathrum, Sentenced, Archgoat and Demigod. The band took a couple of cassette pressings of their first studio demo As a Wind Cries and ended up selling 500 copies.

On their later demos, Thromdarr made more experimental material from the black metal canvas. On the other hand, going through a lineup change led to the band losing its driving force, the recording pace slowing down and the little live activity falling behind partying. In the end of the millennium, the band became active again and signed a contract with Sunset Recordsreleasing their debut album NorthStorm Arrives in 1998.

Svart Records has now compiled Thromdarr’s early demos into a single package. Kyöstilä and Svart’s producer Olli Hänninen have barely touched the original soundscape, instead remastering the demos the way they were originally made with all their faults and successes.

-“The tapes haven’t been remixed afterwards. Instead, they sound as primitive as when they were originally released. The material has also been copied from original recordings. Pick up a beer and listen to old school metal!”, Kyöstilä urges.

Svart Records will release Thromdarr’s Midwinter Frost – Complete demo tapes 1990-1997 CD on the 17th of June 2022 and double LP compilation 1st of July.

Ruissalo Amping there is beautiful music from Turku, shoegaze in the language of the music people. The songs are wonderful, delicately flamboyant pop songs embedded in ringing and / or roaring guitar rallies. Debut album The shelters of the stars in the bust of the Earth there is a romantic rumble, a roar overwhelmed by the echo of an electric guitar, and shy songs about things on Earth – things that touch many at the moment, and inevitably before all.

Ruissalo Amping is known from Turku bands Samuli Virtanen, which is backed by a five – member band of local musicians. According to Virtanen, Ruissalo Amping has an adventure somewhere musically and geographically Paris Spring and Joensuu 1685positioning itself as a natural part of the Turku alternative pop (Wojciech, Magenta Skycode, Pillows…) Continuum.

Bear State Records released The shelters of the stars in the bust of the Earth digitally on 19.11.2021 and the album garnered a lot of praise in the media. In connection with the digital release, a 100-track c-cassette edition of the album was also released, and in September Svart Records will release a acclaimed album in a limited 500-track black vinyl edition. Let the Right One In (Sweden, 2008) is one of the great cult favorites of the current millennium. The magical tale of childhood and vampirism in the suburbs of Stockholm is scored by the director Thomas Alfredson‘s fellow countryman, composer Johan Söderqvist.

Svart are proud to present the deluxe vinyl and CD release of Söderqvist’s soundtrack. Combining dark orchestral textures with a strikingly melodic beauty, Johan Söderqvist has written a truly unique score for this critically acclaimed Swedish cult film. The Svart vinyl version comes in a gatefold sleeve with the original movie poster art adorning the sleeve. The inside of the cardboard of this limited edition is flooded with red splatters.

”Writing the music for Let the Right One In gave me a rare opportunity to write a score that consists of both darkness and light. The filmmakers weren´t looking for your typical horror soundtrack. The most important quality of the music in this film had to be melody and harmony, so even if the overall tone of the film and the score is dark and atmospheric, there is always a sense of hope and beauty.

Let the Right One In is one of the most beautiful films, visually, that I’ve ever worked on. The director, Tomas Alfredson, is a unique director who has enough confidence to allow his collaborators to explore, experiment and find their own way to contribute something unique to the film. Working with him was a big pleasure, and I hope that you will enjoy listening to this music as much as I did creating it.”

Johan Söderqvist – October, 2008

Let the Right One In is out on CD, black and blood red vinyl on September 9th 2022.
