“We have many favourite Nude Girls songs,” the bandʼs leader, Arno Carstens, tells Apple Music. “But ‘Blue Eyesʼ and ‘Genieʼ solidified our future in South African music and allowed us the fortitude of making a living.” Those two tracks may have arrived in the late ʼ90s—at the height of their initial wave of alt-rock success and just before their 2001 hiatus—but these soulful reinventions make them feel like fresh releases. Rounding off the bandʼs Apple Music Home Session is a cover of “December African Rain” by Johnny Clegg. “Heʼs been a legend within the historical relevance of South African music for as long as we can remember,” Carstens says. “It seemed fitting to honour his legacy in such a special way.
