“Outremer (French for ‘overseas’) was the name that was given to the kingdoms of the Levant that were conquered by European invaders during the first crusade. As a band that’s hailing from one of the most controversial places on earth it fits the music perfectly; It evokes the absurdity of life on near eastern soil, with one leg dabbling in western civilization and the other deep in the ancient traditions of the region. An area that is also full of history, wars, religion, and thousands of years of general madness, all mashed together in a never-ending cycle of good and evil. Outremer formed in Tel Aviv during the end of the pandemic by a few local musicians, almost as a necessity to create the sound and vision of the 21st century schizoid world order: their own take on psychedelic guitar music during the new dawn of post truths, uncertainty, and high weirdness. Outremer are armed to the teeth with the arsenal of more than half a century of Rock’n’Roll music tapping their veins and the result is the debut album “Silky Smooth”. A record that combines the heaviness of Sabbathy 70’s style riffing along with the jolly chord progressions of 60’s beat and garage bands. Influences also vary from the rough noise-rock championship of Unsane and acidic post punk heavy hitters to long hypnotic, hallucinogenic seas of tensed strangeness and small doses of rockabilly psychosis.
