Following the successful release of his first single ‘The Way Down’, which Obscure Sound calls a
“delectable psych-rocking success”, White is back with a driving psych-beat free-for-all ‘Blood Divine’. It
marks the second single from forthcoming full-length ‘A Cosmic Year’.
White’s love for musical experimentation and sonic exploration is as present as ever. Heavy and fuzzy (as
has become his signature), Blood Divine’s driving cadence is framed by the use of percussive elements
and fierce rhythm choices. It feels like it might stand alone on the record but elements of his first single
“The Way Down” are more than tangible.
Starting off with ominous wah guitar leads, “Blood Divine” quickly sprints out of the gate into something
that seems familiar but only in the ancient sense. The drums instill some sort of fight or flight response
that’s punctuated by churning tempo and White’s almost chanted vocals.
White explains, “I wanted to write about this sort of ancient conflict. Something like, since the beginning of
time predators have been consuming prey in order to steal their blood divine’. Like all conflict since the
beginning of time has been over resources for survival to some extent, and blood is the richest and most
sought after. Everything is related by this blood or energy we all share but have been fighting over since
before mankind.”
The groovy fuzzed out guitars and ample percussion are joined by strange synth and keyboard warbles
that can be found throughout the rest of ‘A Cosmic Year’ as well. While a unique sound in its own right,
the nostalgic 60s psych-rock feel is undeniable.
