The Diesel Whores were a formidable presence in South Africa’s underground alternative rock scene, forming in Johannesburg in November 2000. Embracing a raw sound and a dark, irreverent sense of humour, the band famously described themselves as “the bastard offspring of an unholy union between Jimmy Swaggart and Betty Page” a tongue-in-cheek introduction that perfectly captured their provocative aesthetic, gritty attitude, and refusal to take themselves too seriously.
