“The much-anticipated follow-up to 2019’s Subtle Phase, Sacred Bull’s sophomore full-length release Ragged Mountain represents the culmination thus far of the group’s dynamic, overpowering sound. A loose concept-album based on the short story “A Tale of the Ragged Mountains” by Edgar Allen Poe, the album is a heady, textured journey through haunted darkness and eerie light, oscillating between creeping menace and transcendent, spiritual fervor. Pulling together every musical strain the group draws upon, including post-rock, doom metal, and heavy shoegaze, Ragged Mountain is the fully realized vision of artists who know precisely what they’re doing, and getting lost in their shadowy world until the dawn breaks is an absolute privilege.
