We’re thrilled to release this most wonderful archival album from 2007! It’s an important piece of the puzzle within the history of legendary Brooklyn underground psychedelic/prog/space-metal wizards LA OTRACINA. “Woke On Waves” is the sister album to their “Blood Moon Riders” LP, issued in 2008 on the Holy Mountain label.

LA OTRACINA recorded two albums worth of instrumental music at those 2007 “Blood Moon Rider” sessions, one of which was the songs/compositions for the album, and the other was 45 minutes of absolutely heady and masterfully crafted psychedelic exloratory improvisations, from the time-period when the group was at their freak-rock/free-improvisational peak! And after 14 years, it is now to be revealed to the universe for the first time ever as “Woke On Waves”.
Since their inception in 2003, LA OTRACINA was always an instrumental band, but during the mixing sessions for the improvisational takes, drummer/founder Adam Kriney decided to add vocals, so this album marks the first appearance of vocals in their history. The album also represents a stellar top notch recording and mixing from bassist Evan Sobel, who became the group’s de facto recording/mixing engineer, in addition to playing Bass VI, electric guitar and synthesizer for the band, through the next 5 years. The electric guitar performed on this record is from the masterful hands of Italian free-improv/noise-rock/out-music wizard Ninni Morgia, who also played with Kriney in free-improv group QUIVERS (find the “2012” LP on Tigerasylum Records on bandcamp) AND he is Italian underground noise-rock royalty via his old band WHITE TORNADO.

The Adam Kriney-Evan Sobel-Ninni Morgia lineup of the band was only together for about 1 year but stayed quite busy with an 8-date Italian Tour (a live recording of improvisations was issued as the “Crystal Wizards Of The Cosmic Weird” CD on Sky Fi Industries), extensive East Coast/Midwest US touring and lots of shows in the NYC area. The live concerts were HEAVILY influenced by extensive improvisational interludes and jawdroppingly dexterous performances of their more progressively arranged compositions. The CD version contains 5 live bonus tracks comprising a 2007 performance of the entire “Blood Moon Riders” LP!
