I (with Cale Bruggeman) first encountered SLUDGEPLOW in Dubuque, IA at a downtown bar that featured live music on Sundays (for all ages). There were a few people there milling around but, no real metal heads in sight. The band suddenly appeared on stage looking haggard as hell and obviously hung over from the gig the night before. They began playing, and the building began to sway to a slow and heavy groove that had not been heard in the town before. They played for an incredible hour and we could not believe our ears. We were musically/emotionally devastated by the end of the show and ran as fast as we could to buy the cassette. We would later go on to start our own heavy and weird bands.”
