Orcus 2135: Arrival of the Terraformers is the second multi-track release by Kansas City band Low Forest. Technically an EP by a few seconds, it features three songs previously offered as singles.
The release is accompanied by a book of the same name, and shares a common story. The book, “Orcus 2135: Arrival of the Terraformers” was written by lead singer/guitarist Josh King. Originally intended to be a short-story for a 10-minute reading to accompany the album, the book includes several allusions to the songs on the E.P., Low Forest’s previous release Entrovert/Ambivector, and King’s other musical works–as well as other musicians in the Kansas City area.
When purchasing the album on Bandcamp, you also receive a PDF of the book as part of the download. Alternatively, a limited number of paperback copies will also be made available for purchase.
The last two tracks on the album consist of an “introduction” track to the story, and then a single chapter from the book–fulfilling the original intent of the text–set to music created by Low Forest and narrated by King.
In a subsequent series of releases, the band plans to publish each chapter of the book in sequence, resulting in a full audio-book of the text, with each track scored by the band and narrated by the author.
Low Forest is Josh King, Alex Dunn, Keith Howell, Brad Schumacher, and Halston Rossi. The band is supported by a network of family, friends, collaborators, and a thriving Greater Kansas City music scene.
