Tom Shear on his new, dark Assemblage 23 album –

Prolific one man electronic pop project Assemblage 23, also known as Tom Shear, is set to release a new album on September 11th – and we talked to him about the new sound and pro-active shipping problem solving.

    – This album came out of a very dark period in my life and I think the sound of the album reflects that. In some ways, I think it mixes the darkness of “Contempt” with the songwriting style of “Storm”, but with a more modern feel, Tom tells us.

“Mourn” holds ten new tracks and a trailer has been put up on YouTube (watch below). The album will be released digitally, on vinyl and in two different CD versions, where the double deluxe CD holds 20 tracks including remixes from Neuroactive, Klack and others as well as two bonus tracks. The vinyl edition also holds the two bonus tracks and is a double wax edition with twelve tracks. Pre-orders for all versions are now open.

    – It’s honestly the happiest I’ve been with an album I’ve done in a long time and I’m really anxious for people to hear it!

Shear has also announced that he is working with a European distributor this time to keep shipping costs down.

    – One other note that would be of interest to your readers. I’ve teamed up with partners in Germany to ship all our orders to Europe and the Russian Federation at domestic rates. International shipping rates from the US have gotten quite expensive to the point where the postage often costs more than the items themselves. Now, any orders placed on the Assemblage 23 web shop that are headed to Europe or Russia will ship from Germany at local domestic rates, thus saving our European fans a lot of money. Customers need not do anything special. Just place their orders through my website, select the country they live in for shipping, and they will see the new, lower rates.
