We tend to hear about the plight of people through the news. A second hand account. A reporter telling us about the suffering they witness happening to others. However, for every story reported, there are real people living through those experiences. Every second matters.
We also live in a world where we are inundated with data on suffering. Telling us how many people may die every day or every hour on average. Each death that might be a statistic had a story behind it.
We are conditioned to be numb from suffering. We are overloaded at times and begin to repress or explain away this suffering.
Let us be explicitly clear — Suffering should never be received by a numb soul
There is no good reason to put children in cages
There is no good reason to tear families apart
There is no good reason to kill and mame as a deterrent to keep people out.
Humanity can’t move forward until we face collective suffering with open eyes and look deep within ourselves to step beyond the need and want to force the label ‘undesirable’ on anyone and build a framework within society that maintains everyone’s basic human rights.”
