Sleep + Pharaoh Overlord at Bataclan on October 8> Desert-rock> News

It is sometimes important to remember in these times when the stoner rock force is disturbed by the arrival of young hippies considering that Red Fang or Kadavar are the year 1 of the genre, that Sleep is one of the pillars (of the three or four pillars, depending on whether you add Fu Manchu) of the genre. An essential, an inseparable, a living legend still active and still relevant, which is not far from being unique. The San José trio have released essential albums, pushing the genre to its very limits with Dopesmoker, a piece so intense, so grand that it took 18 years between its recording and its publication, the time for manners to authorize such a thing. And Sleep, a group believed to have disappeared in the limbo of eternity, having given birth to two Nemesis entities (OM and High On Fire) eventually reformed. Like most bands of the time, would you say? Yes. Except that the relevance of their album The Sciences, released in 2018 and the emotional force of their concerts remind once again that Sleep is not like the others. But let the others exist only and only because Sleep once exploded the shackles of under-tuned music.

The first part of this concert is also inevitable, Sleep having added the services of Pharaoh Overlord, experimental quintet, almost robotic Swedish, having published a ziliard of albums since their creation in 2000 and making itself only too rare on stage, place where however they excel. Those present when they appeared at Roadburn 2011 can testify to this. Forgotten from the DesertFest line up (even this year in Antwerp while Sleep is playing there, which constitutes a kind of scandal), Pharaoh Overlord will set foot on a French scene for the first time, and it will therefore be a moment of history, in a room responsible for it.
